Water in the Wave Sangha
Water in the Wave is a community that practices meditation in the tradition of Plum Village and Thich Nhat Hanh.
Founded April 15th, 2012, Water in the Wave Sangha traces its roots to Susquehanna Valley Sangha of York.
Ultimately, the Sangha that transmitted the seeds to our founder was the Mindfulness Practice Center of Fairfax.
Mission Statement
Water in the Wave was created to plant the seeds of mindfulness in a city plagued by violence and to maintain this urban presence. In November, 2013, 14 people from two York City Sanghas received the 5 Mindfulness Trainings from Dharma Teacher Dr. Ian Prattis of Pine Gate Sangha of Ottawa. It is our hope to continuously engage in the transformation and insight of our suffering, so that we may be of better use and service to all, particularly in our homes and cities.
How to Find Us.
Water in the Wave Sangha meets at the graciousness of:
the Friends Meeting House, 135 W. Philadelphia Street, York, Pa. 17402.
This facility which pre-dates the Revolution has a magnificent backyard where we engage in outdoor walking meditation 7 months of the year.
Our Sangha commits to quarterly days of mindfulness.
Once a month we offer a mindfulness for children night, where kids of varied ages engage in creative mindfulness for children instruction and play, while mom can participate in meditation in the room next door.
The women of our Sangha connect once every two months for a women’s social connection night out.
Two of our members bring social service opportunities to the Sangha as they arise.
Our doors open Sundays at 4.40 for meet and greet, we start at 5 PM and end at 7 PM.
The format is:
25 minute guided meditation.
Outdoor walking meditation whenever possible.
We foster connection in a social snack break and return to meditation hall for a mindfulness teaching and discussion.
